Blog Post 5: Reflection on Conscience

1)
The quote says that it does not make a difference if you make a right or wrong choice. And that your conscience does not know what is right or wrong it just tells you what you want to do. I don’t agree with this because if does matter if you do the right thing or not. And your conscience does know what is right or wrong and it won’t just tell you what you want to do.

One example of when Huck’s conscience influenced him is when he thought about steeling and then he thought of what the widow would do and he decided not to steel it. Another example of when Huck’s conscience influenced him is when he thought about letting the boat with the people on it go down the river he thought of what the widow would do and then he did not do it. A third example of when Huck’s conscience influenced him is when he was not going to help Jim. And then his conscience told him to do it because he would have a better life if he escaped.

When my conscience stopped me from making a bad decision was when my friends wanted me to go somewhere with them even though my mom had said that I could not go. But I really wanted to go and my friends were pressuring me to go. But I thought about what would happen if I went and in the end I did not go because my conscience told me not to got against my moms words.

Blog Post 4: Huck Finn: Setting Description

As I open the big dark colored wooden door the smell of fresh baked cookies hits me in the face. I see the brown leather couch by the clean white wall across from the big screen television. There is the computer in the corner sitting on a wooden desk. As I walk down the hall I find my grandma in the kitchen baking some yummy chocolate chip cookies. I love to come to my grandma and grandpa’s house because it makes me feel so good and safe. I have been coming here since I was a baby and I feel like it’s my own home. I go to my grandma and grandpa’s house almost every day.
Then I walk down the three stairs open the white wooden door and go outside and the cool fall air hits me again. In the back yard there are a lot of toys that my three year old cousin plays with when she comes over. I also see my grandpas black Chevy Silverado truck in the driveway by the garage. So I walk into the garage to find my grandpa in the small white garage. In the garage there is a lot of craftsman tools and equipment to do many different things. My grandpa loves to do things with tools. He is sitting there working on the lawnmower. So I say “Need any help Grandpa?” and he says “no”. He does not like to ask for help so sometimes I just ask him if he needs any help.
So I walk back into the beautiful house and sit down on the black leather chair in front of the very expensive computer. I think about how much I love to come here. This place means a lot to me and when I was little I lived here for about three years. I’m so thankful to have the great family that I do.

Blog Post 2: Huck Finn Response (Ch. 13 - Ch. 17)

In Mark Twain's The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Huck, the protagonist, Huck, is greatly influenced by four people: Widow Douglas, Tom Sawyer, Pap, and Jim.

Widow Douglas directly influences Huck by getting him to go to school. She also indirectly influences Huck by teaching him manners, respect and to be a good person. On page eleven Huck says “ I had been to school most all the time, and could spell, and read, and write, just a little, and would say the multiplication table up to six times seven is thirty-five, and I don’t reckon I could ever get any further than that if I was to live forever.”

Tom Sawyer directly influences Huck by he gets Huck to join the gang and got him to sneak out of the house. Tom also indirectly influences Huck because Huck looks up to him and he has good and bad effects on him. On page three Huck says “Then I slipped down to the ground and crawled in amongst the trees, an sure enough there was Tom Sawyer waiting for me.”

Pap directly influences Huck by telling him not to go to school anymore. And Pap does not really indirectly influence Huck because he does not mean that much to Huck. On page fifteen Pap tells Huck “You lemme catch you fooling around that school again, you hear?”

Jim directly influences Huck by getting him to believe in good and bad luck. On pare fourteen Jim says “You wants to keep ‘way fum de water as much as you kin, en don’t run no rest, ‘kase it’s down in de bills dat you’s gwyne to get hung.”

Without these key influences in his life, Huck would be a very different person.

Post 1: Huck Finn Response (CH.1-CH.12)

Huck Finn is a teenage boy. Huck was living with the Widow Douglas because his father has not been seen for a year or more. His Father is a drunk, anytime he has money he spends it on alcohol. Then Huck's Pap is in Huck's room one day when he comes home. And he wants Huck to stop going to school, and stop reading books. And his Pap wants him to give him the money that Judge Thatcher's is keeping for him. Huck does not want to give the money to his father because he will spend it all. Huck's father kidnaps him and they go to a cabin. Then Huck escapes and makes it look like he was killed. Jim is Miss. Watson's slave. Then Jim runs away because he heard that Miss. Watson was going to sell him. So they find each other. Huck dressed up as a girl and went up to this lady's house and pretended to be Sarah Williams. He just wanted to know what was going on in town.





I really like this book because it is interesting and fun to read. I just don't like the way Huck's dad treats him. I really don't dislike anything about this book. I don't really think that it is that much like Of Mice and Men. But Lennie and Huck both run away.
